Extremal Probabilistic Problems and Hotelling's T 2 Test under Symmetry Condition

چکیده
We consider Hotelling’s T 2 statistic for an arbitrary d-dimensional sample. If the sampling is not too deterministic or inhomogeneous, then under zero means hypothesis, T 2 tends to χd in distribution. We are showing that a test for the orthant symmetry condition introduced by Efron can be constructed which does not essentially differ from the one based on χd and at the same time is applicable not only for large random homogeneous samples but for all multidimensional samples without exceptions. The main assertions have the form of inequalities, not that of limit theorems; these inequalities are exact representing the solutions to certain extremal problems. Let us also mention an auxiliary result which itself may be of interest: χd − (d − 1) 1 2 decreases in distribution in d to its limit N(0, 1 2 ).

Extremal properties of random mosaics
László Fejes Tóth’s fascinating book [2] demonstrates in many ways the phenomenon that figures of discrete or convex geometry that are very economical, namely solving an extremal problem of isoperimetric type, often show a high degree of symmetry. Among the examples are also planar mosaics where, for instance, an extremal property leads to the hexagonal pattern. Mosaics, or tessellations, have ...
متن کاملExtremal graph problems with symmetrical extremal graphs. Additional chromatic conditions
The main result of this paper is that for a special, but rather wide class of "sample graphs", the extremal graphs, i.e, the graphs of n vertices without subgraphs isomorphic to the sample graph and having maximum number of edges under this condition, have very simple and sYmmetric structure. This result remains valid even in the case when the' condition "the graph does not contain the sample g...
متن کاملExtremal Positive Solutions For The Distributed Order Fractional Hybrid Differential Equations
In this article, we prove the existence of extremal positive solution for the distributed order fractional hybrid differential equation$$int_{0}^{1}b(q)D^{q}[frac{x(t)}{f(t,x(t))}]dq=g(t,x(t)),$$using a fixed point theorem in the Banach algebras. This proof is given in two cases of the continuous and discontinuous function $g$, under the generalized Lipschitz and Caratheodory conditions.
متن کاملMultivariate Statistical Analysis of Audit Trails for Host-Based Intrusion Detection
ÐIntrusion detection complements prevention mehcanisms, such as firewalls, cryptography, and authentication, to capture intrusions into an information system while they are acting on the information system. Our study investigates a multivariate quality control technique to detect intrusions by building a long-term profile of normal activities in information systems (norm profile) and using the ...
متن کاملMethods for Solving Extremal Problems in Practice
During the 20th century there has been an incredible progress in solving theoretically hard problems in practice. One of the most prominent examples is the DPLL algorithm and its derivatives to solve the Boolean satisfiability problem, which can handle instances with millions of variables and clauses in reasonable time, notwithstanding the theoretical difficulty of solving the problem. Despite ...
